Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) - Full time (36 hrs/wk) - Midnights - Ascension St. John Hospital - Detroit, MI
7p-7:30a rotating weekends and holidays
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is a 28 bed adult emergency observation unit. We are the bridge between the ED and outpatient world. Our goal is to disposition patients in less than 24 hours. Some patients take just a few hours and some do go a bit beyond 24 hours. Typical diagnosis and workups include chest pain/telemetry, COPD/asthma, TIA, GI, urology, neuro, pain, some trauma, etc. We do a lot of treatments (IV therapy, respiratory treatments, antibiotics, pain management), specialty consultants, and diagnostic testing. As a comprehensive stroke center we manage many TIA. We send patients to surgery, procedures (endo/cysto), and cardiac cath lab. Some patients do get admitted to inpatient because they end up requiring a higher level of care. Most of our patients are discharged, so there is a lot of education and discharge planning. We do arrange placements for nursing homes/rehab also.
Patients are managed by certified ED physicians with consultants as needed. We also have midlevels and residents also assigned to CDU. Team is made up of RNs, PCTs, nurse interns, HUCs on all shifts. We work very closely with our case manager, social worker, pharmacist, and mulitdisciplinary teams (cath lab, nuclear & noninvasive , endoscopy, etc)

What You Will Do:
Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
What You Will Need:
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.
- Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
