Equity Analyst

Job Summary:

Provides top-down and bottom-up analysis on the equity markets, from indices to individual stocks. Keeps a portfolio-oriented perspective to research and recommendations, as the analyst works with Raymond James advisors to construct customized portfolios and solutions that fit their clients needs and goals. Adds value by providing equity market commentary, ideas, tools, and solutions in order to help the firms advisors maintain, improve, and generate business. Communicates via telephone, email, webinars, conferences, meetings, and any other outlets necessary to perform tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Portfolio Manager in all areas of managing the Guided Model portfolios for the firm, including fundamental research on a macro and micro level, as well as the use of quantitative and technical analysis
  • Researches equity market sectors for insight and recommendations in the Sector Analysis piece
  • Constructs customized portfolios and provides portfolio recommendations to the firms advisors that meet the needs and objectives of their individual clients
  • Produces market commentary on a daily (Morning Brew, Afternoon Comment) or as needed basis
  • Provides quantitative screeners and tools to assist in the evaluation of portfolios and individual stocks
  • Holds webinars to provide equity market insight and recommendations on a macro, sector, and individual security basis
  • Works as a reliable member of a team that upholds itself to the highest standards of honesty, respect, and ethical integrity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of research.
  • Fundamental investment concepts, practices and procedures used in the securities industry.
  • Financial markets and products.
Skill in:
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Analytical skills sufficient to assess and explain events in the market.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to think independently sufficient to market ideas and assist FAs.
  • Ability to present ideas and insight to veteran and new FAs.
  • Operating standard office equipments and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office and established databases.
Ability to:
  • Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to reports.
  • Attend to detail while maintaining a big picture orientation.
  • Remain cognizant of our commitment to daily workflow and regulatory compliance during high volume activity.
  • Organize, manage and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with frequently changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree (B.A.) in Finance or related field, as well as a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • MBA in Finance or related field preferred
  • (or) any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources
  • SIE required provided that an exemption or grandfathering cannot be applied.
  • Series 7 license
  • Series 86/87 license preferred
